The Politics of Power at the Weimar Republic's Premier Art Institute, 1919–1931. The Bauhaus in Dessau is considered to be the origin of modern architecture. The Bauhaus was an art school founded in 1919 by Walter Gropius in Weimar. The school had the concept of teaching design and production together, thereby creating innovative industrial design. The photograph was taken by Moholy in 1925–6 at the Dessau Bauhaus, an art, architecture and design school, and produced as a gelatin silver print on paper. It is one of hundreds of photographs taken by Moholy to document the buildings, masters’ houses and objects at the Dessau Bauhaus between 1924 and 1928.
